Companies are gearing up for a new fight against cybersquatters as a new top- level internet domain – .asia – launches today.
Cybersquatters buy up domain names relating to famous people, successful companies or services, purely in order to resell them to those people or companies at a profit. The arrival of a new internet suffix is a potential goldmine.
Disputes in the showbiz world may make the headlines but the corporate sector has seen its fair share of battles. For example, when .eu became available last year, there were 227 applications for sex.eu, 118 for hotel.eu and 94 for travel.eu.
